Share The Stories of Elgin's Historic Homes

Every year, the House Tour is a success due largely to the 400+ volunteers that commit their time both during the weekend of the tour and the entire year leading up to it.  We are always searching for people to help tell the stories of the past- the stories of the homes that have made Elgin the great community and historical neighborhood it is today.  Below are some sample jobs, but anyone and everyone is welcome- we’ll find a place for you! The 2019 Tour is currently in its planning stages. If you would like us to contact you when we begin looking for volunteers please fill out the form below and we’ll be in touch soon. If you have been a volunteer in the past feel free to update your contact information if it has changed.

Docents

These people are the true storytellers: they are stationed at the houses to share the story of each home with visitors.  Generally just working a 3-hour shift on one day, this job allows plenty of time to visit all the homes on the tour and a complimentary ticket to the tour

Registration

These are the people who get it all started.  This position is perfect for someone social; you’ll get to meet all the attendees.  Selling tickets, handing out booklets and answering questions- you definitely won’t be bored with this job! You will also receive a complimentary ticket to the tour.
